I notice this page carries the endorsement: "Checked.png Checked for technical accuracy Vivianychen 00:43, 05 March 2011 (UTC)" and may be out-of-date. "Format > Styles and Formatting, right click on Default and choose Modify > Font" appears also to be non-existent indeed while "Format>Styles and Formatting" does exist clicking on it merely results in a tick appearing and no other noticeable change.
"Tools > Options > Writer > Basic Fonts (Western)" does not appear to exist
The instructions on the page bore no resemblance to what I could find in my current version of OO (4.1.3): While trying to find out how to change the default character font in a document - because when I used a hyperlink I had recently installed, the formatting on the link was changed (an issue I am still trying to sort out), I discovered the following page.
